Some Frequently Asked Questions from Staff
What are the qualifications you look for
when hiring staff?
Camp Wise staff members are selected in a highly competitive process
that includes a written application, reference letters, and an interview.
We are looking for individuals who are friendly, fun, creative, kind,
funny, responsible, mature, and bright. We want counselors who can take
a crappy rainy afternoon and make it the best day ever for their campers.
We want counselors who will go with their kids to the pool for swim
lessons on a chilly day and strip down to their bathing suit and jump
right in, instead of sitting on the side in their sweatshirt. We look
for those staff members who are into being part of a team, and want
to support the goals and the mission of Camp Wise.
We look for significant experience working
with kids, beyond babysitting. We look for people who have sought out
leadership opportunities during the year, and want to make a difference
for others. Our staff members must be entering college or older, or
they may be entering 12th grade if they have completed our Camp Wise
Staff-in-Training program.
Do we have days off?
Yes, all staff members have time off each week, excluding the first
two and last two days of each session.
Do we have free time?
Yep! Time off is built into every staff member’s day. This is
time to nap, unwind, chill out, exercise, read, or go for a walk.
Are we paid well?
Camp Wise offers a highly competitive salary with free room and board.
Of course you could get that internship in New York or DC because you
think it will be better for your future, but c’mon, you know you’ll
end up burning through any small stipend you get in the city –
if you’re lucky enough to even get paid! The bottom line is that
a summer at camp gives you ten times the leadership experience and
job training than most internships or summer jobs offer!
