In the words of a CW staff person…

There is something special about Camp Wise, something that keeps everyone coming back year after year. The best decision I ever made was to be a counselor at Camp Wise, a place I had spent six summers as a camper. Being a counselor for an amazing camp, with such fun and vibrant campers, has been such a rewarding experience. People always ask me why I am a counselor, and the simplest answer I can give is that I have a great time all summer and I truly love what I do.

One reason I love being a counselor is because of the traditions and activities at camp. I get to experience the song sessions, the sports, the Shabbats, the Maccabias, the spirit, the campfires, and the field trips in a way I only get to at Camp Wise. Camp offers the opportunities to go white water rafting, to perform in front of a group, to make falafel, to challenge yourself, and try new things.

There is more to camp than the activities, of course. Any camp can offer these programs, but what sets Camp Wise apart is the people. The staff is comprised of such diverse and energetic individuals, coming together to provide the best possible summer for the campers. The staff establishes such a positive atmosphere at camp that it’s impossible to not have fun. Being part of the staff allows me to make new friends and be part of a group – a group that works together all summer to accomplish great things. I have learned so much from those I have worked with, and learned so much about myself. I have gained valuable leadership qualities I will carry with me forever. Being a camp counselor is the best job I could ask for, and continuously enhances my life.

While of course I enjoy the activities and staff at camp, the reason we all spend our summers in Chardon, Ohio is for the campers. The campers are the true heart and spirit of Camp Wise. As much as the staff gains from each other, such immense benefits come from the campers as well. To be a camp counselor, you have to love being with kids.
Being a part of the Camp Wise family is something to be treasured, and I always count down until the summer comes and I can return to camp. We are so lucky to have a place like this, and I would never choose to be anywhere else.
